| The first building of the Eremo Madonna delle Grazie dates back to 1500. The Capuchin friars built it just outside the walls of the ancient town of Avola, on a hill that dominates a great area of the South East of the island. In 1693 the terrible earthquake that hit eastern Sicily destroyed even the mighty building of the Eremo. The reconstruction work began in 1729, headed by the architect Giuseppe Alessi. Initially used to accommodate the novices, it later became a place for contemplation and prayer.
The charming historic dwelling Eremo Madonna delle Grazie has 11 rooms. They are sober Cubicula derived from cells of the friars; besides there are: a breakfast room with a balcony overlooking the canyon, the comfortable TV and reading room Animae Solacium; the refined restaurant Convivium; the convention and conference room Mentes Eruditio; the Culinae Pacuni, the original kitchen of friars; the large backyard pizzeria Eremo and the characteristic and beautiful patios leaning to the guest rooms in a warm and genuine hug. Adjacent to the Eremo is a small 18th century church, which is a place of worship and prayer still today, a silent guardian of mystical vocation. The Eremo Madonna delle Grazie is not just a hotel stay; it offers an unforgettable sicilian experience. External
